Triglycerides comprise castor oil. Ricinoleic acid, which is a monounsaturated fatty acid, is the major component of castor oil that exerts anti-inflammatory effects. Castor oil also contains oleic and linoleic acids.

What is the castor oil plant?

The castor oil plant, also known as Ricinus communis, is an annual that is originally grown in India and Brazil, where the plant is a native of. Ideally, it has long, purplish stalks, with blades that are usually from 6 to 8 inches long. The plant can grow from 2 to 5 meters every season.

Where is castor oil produced?

Presently, the oil is produced by India, Brazil and China. Production from these countries comprise about 90% of the annual world production of castor oil. Other parts of Asia, Europe and South America also produce castor oil.

What is castor oil used for?

Castor oil is used mainly for its industrial and medical applications. It is a raw material for manufacturing fibers, lubricants, synthetic resins, varnishes and various chemicals.

This plant-based oil is also used in manufacturing commercial skin care and conditioning products like shampoo and lipstick. When it comes to its medical uses, castor oil is a laxative, which is famous for providing temporary relief to constipation. It is also considered an alternative treatment to many kinds of health conditions.

How is castor oil used in medical treatment?

Topically, castor oil is either massaged directly or is applied through a castor oil pack, which is like a compress placed over the affected area. It helps relieve lymph drainage problems and eliminate tumors and cysts among its many medical uses.

What is castor oil induction?

Inducing labor is one of the medical uses of castor oil. A pregnant woman can drink castor oil, which helps her to naturally start labor and experience contractions in preparation for childbirth.

    my question is that if i want to take castor oil everyday..just for a healthy diet purpose and to avoid risk of other diseases in the future..how much is the appropriate amount? my mother used to take it everyday 1 small teaspoon. please advice
